Objective

To ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of schema markup on our website by performing a thorough schema audit. This procedure aims to identify and rectify errors while optimizing schema data to enhance search engine visibility and performance.

Key Steps

  1. Connect to Google Search Console

    • Access the schema audit section in the Webrex SEO app.

    • Click on the connection link to redirect to Google Search Console.

    • Follow the prompts to connect your store to the Webrex SEO app.

  2. Review Schema Audit Results

    • Once connected, navigate to the schema audit section.

    • Analyze the following outputs:

      • Errors: Prioritize fixing these issues immediately.

      • Warnings: No immediate action required; these are not counted by Google.

      • Missing Fields: Optional fields that do not require urgent attention.

  3. Address Errors

    • Identify all listed errors and take the necessary steps to fix them.

    • If errors are related to the app, determine if they are small fixes that can be handled in-house or if they require a custom plan.

  4. Remove Duplicates

    • Check for duplicate schemas within the product snippet section.

    • Remove any duplicates to ensure clarity and accuracy in schema data.

  5. Sync Pages

    • After addressing errors and duplicates, click the "Sync" button to update the current status of the schema audit.

    • Confirm that the number of errors has decreased as expected.

  6. Optimize Schemas

    • Review the valid schemas and ensure they are correctly implemented.

    • Focus on optimizing the schemas based on the audit results.

  7. Documentation and Reporting

    • Document any changes made during the audit process.

    • Report the final status of the schema audit to the relevant team members.

Cautionary Notes

  • Do not ignore errors; they can significantly impact search engine performance.

  • Warnings and missing fields are less critical but should be monitored for potential future improvements.

  • Ensure that you are on the pro plan to access the schema audit features.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Regularly schedule schema audits (e.g., monthly) to stay ahead of potential issues.

  • Use the documentation from the Webrex SEO app to familiarize yourself with the labels and outputs in the schema audit section.

  • Consider creating a checklist based on this SOP to streamline the audit process for future team members.

  • Communicate with the team about any recurring issues or patterns observed during audits to facilitate proactive measures.
